Media Literacy Ambassadors’ LEAD Programme 2015
Innova Junior College, Centre of Excellence for New Media is pleased to invite secondary school and junior college student teams to our inaugural Media Literacy Ambassadors’ LEAD Programme (Media-LEAD). This event is supported by the Media Literacy Council (MLC) and Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA).
As we are aware, a higher level of success in cyber wellness education comes with having youth take ownership of influencing their peers positively in cyber wellness issues. A peer-to-peer approach ensures that learning is authentic, age-appropriate and impactful. The Media Literacy Ambassadors’ LEAD Programme (Media-LEAD) seeks to complement digital citizenship and cyber wellness education in schools by equipping student ambassadors with the skills to plan and deliver cyber wellness educational talks and projects that will positively impact their peers. This is also aligned to the focus on ‘Values in Action’ in Character and Citizenship Education. Media-LEAD also aims to foster a network of student ambassadors by providing a platform for training and exchange of innovative practices.
Media-LEAD comprises a two-day Media-LEAD Academy and follow-up consultations with the trainer to support student teams in running media literacy campaigns for the year. The Media-LEAD Academy will take place from 16 - 17 March 2015 at Innova Junior College. Each school team will then be supported with up to three follow-up consultations with the trainer to guide them in the planning and delivery of the student-led media literacy educational efforts. The cost of supporting each school team of 5 students is $800, but through the support of our partners, MDA and MLC, the Media-LEAD Programme will made available to each school team at a subsidized rate of $350.
